Articles and Books on Science, Spirituality, Religion and Healing

Recommended books for the interface between Science, Spirituality, and Healing:

Spiritual Transformation and Healing: Anthropological, Theological, Neuroscientific and Clinical PerspectivesEd. by Joan D. Koss-Chioino and Philip Hefner.  New York: AltaMira Press, 2006.   This book has sixteen chapters written by authorities in the field of spirituality and healing.  In the Forward, written by Solomon H. Katz, we learn that the chapters are closely related to the Spiritual Transformation Scientific Research Program (STP), a multi-disciplinary, multimillion-dollar research program launch in 2002 to provide integrated scientific studies that can account for the nature of the various biological, psychosocial, and cultural conditions and factors that underlie spiritual transformations.  Katz says that STEP had a pyramidal effort for this book -- providing impetus for new work and refocusing existing work and studies. (p. ix)

The first chapter is entitled "Exploring Spiritual Transformation and Healing: Fundamental Issues" and is written by Philip Hefner and Joan D. Koss-Chioino.  Here we read: "The book focuses on generic, widespread aspects of the healing process within diverse cultural, religious and biological contexts.  It rests on the primise that spiritual transformation is a universal potential of human life and a central element in the actions and interactions of the healing process." (p 3)

This book is well worth reading, especially for those interested in multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural aspects on the interaction of spiritual transformation and healing.
